Internal Service

2001-2002. NRC-IIT Organizational Development

Played a central role in the design and implementation of a participative process for the Institute for Information Technology’s organizational development in a team of seven.
During the implemetation of the process, co-lead the “Surveyors” focus team to identify the institute’s core competencies. Liaised with the NRC’s Employment Philosophy (EP) program to coordinate the process with NRC-wide employment survey activities.

2001. Establishment of NRC-IIT Atlantic Research Programs

Worked in the development of research programs for  the Institute for Information Technology’s e-business program in Fredricton. Conducted interviews with local companies, academics, and other stakeholders. Participated in round-table discussions in with the stakeholders. Participated in the hiring of four new research officers.

1998. NRC-IIT Software Engineering Group Hiring Committee

Conducted interviews and evaluated candidates to grow the group.

1996-1998. NRC-IIT Colloquium Committee Chair

Was responsible for managing the IIT’s distinguished speaker series, developing guidelines, managing the budget, and coordinating talks.

1995-2001. NRC-IIT Colloquium Committee Software Engineering Group Representative.

Ensured that software engineering research was represented inthe IIT Colloquium series. Found speakers and coordinated talks.

2004. Task Force on Access For All Through Technology

Member of Canadian federral government’s interdepartmental task force on the integration of employees with disabilities through information and communication technologies. Developed recommendations to facilititate the partipication of persons with disabilities in the federal government work force. Contribution was formally acknowledged by a letter from Assistant Secretary, Employment Equity Division and Deputy Chief Information Officer.

  • Acceptance Testing with FIT (20 participants). Half-day hands-on workshop led by Grigori Melnik. National Research Council, March 24, 2005.
  • Software Development The Extreme Way: An Interactive Workshop on Extreme Programming (22 participants). 2-week intensive hands-on workshop delivered by coaches Joshua Kerievsky and Rob Myers. National Research Council, March 11-22, 2002.
  • Pattern Writing Workshop (15 participants). 2-day hands-on workshop lead by Jim Coplien on authoring design patterns. National Research Council, February 9-10, 1999. With Janice Singer.
